Leaders from across the Chapel Hill area in business, government and education gathered on Wednesday, May 1st to celebrate the grand opening of Launch Chapel Hill. Launch Chapel Hill is located in the heart of Chapel Hill at 321 W. Rosemary St, convenient to Franklin Street and the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. This start up accelerator is the result of a partnership that includes the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the town and county governments and the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership. The goal is to not only bring new business to Orange County but to also create an environment that entices business to stay once they get off the ground floor.
Currently there are already 16 startup ventures working out of Launch’s space in a variety of sectors including nonprofits, media and software companies. The list of startups includes Sweeps, an an easy way to hire college students, and Resound Magazine a national digital music magazine network that covers college community music scenes through locally focused, student-run branches.
