Site Reliability Engineer
As NetActuate’s Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to manage NetActuate’s complex challenges of scale, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis and large-scale system design.
This role combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures that NetActuate’s services, both internally critical and externally-visible systems, have reliability, uptime appropriate to users’ needs and a fast rate of improvement. Our site reliability engineer will also keep a watchful eye on our systems capacity and performance. Software development work will focus on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and eliminating work through automation. This is a full-time, 100% remote position.
Position Responsibilities
- Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, deployment, operation, and refinement.
- Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
- Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.
- Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation; evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
- Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field involving software/systems engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience programming in at least one of the following languages: C, C++, Java, Python, or Go.
- Experience with algorithms and data structures.
- Experience with networking and the “cloud”
Preferred Skills
- Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
- Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks.

Technical Support Engineer
NetActuate is seeking full-time Technical Support Engineers for a range of flexible shifts. As a technical support engineer, you’ll need to be familiar with various web hosting control panels – Web Host Manager, cPanel, DirectAdmin, etc. either from a customer (end user) perspective or as an administrator.
You’ll be familiar with installing, configuring and troubleshooting common web applications based on the LAMP stack like WordPress, Joomla, and Magento, and you’ll be comfortable working with and understanding customer requirements and issues.
You’re familiar with a tech support environment – responding to tickets via a ticket system, taking phone calls via a tech support queue and escalating to senior engineers. A strong drive to learn more about Linux, and light familiarity with the Linux command line is a plus.
As an entry level position, you may have just helped friends and family with their blog or photo gallery. Are you the person everyone calls when their PC breaks or to help fix their website? This may be the ideal role for you.
Ideal Candidates Have
- A passion for providing first class technical support
- Strong knowledge in web hosting technologies, especially DNS and email

Hours
Several positions are open during different shift windows (morning shift, daytime, swing, graveyard.) either standard 8 hrs or 4 x 10 options available. You understand that “cloud” is a relative term and that you’re still working with physical servers in a datacenter to deliver it. You have worked in agile environments that are project-oriented. You have experience designing, deploying, operating and supporting hypervisors, storage, networking, and DNS.
The successful candidate must have strategic agility and good decision-making skills. They should also possess the ability to work well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with a strong customer-service orientation. You should be able to solve problems at a tactical and functional level, have excellent oral and written communication skills, a solid work ethic and unquestioned integrity.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Day-to-day management on-premise of physical datacenter including working with hardware (our own and customers’) – rack/stack, cabling, configuration, etc.
- Switch and network monitoring/troubleshooting/configuration

The successful candidate must have strategic agility and good decision-making skills. They should also possess the ability to work well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. The role requires keen planning skills along with the ability to lead through influence and to be a proactive partner with a strong customer-service orientation.
Candidates should be able to solve problems at a tactical and functional level, have excellent oral and written communication skills, a solid work ethic and unquestioned integrity.
Key Responsibilities Include:

NetActuate is seeking part-time or full-time Linux Systems Administrator/Technical Support Engineer with a focus on Linux systems. Position Summary:
This is an on-site, full-time or part-time position located in RTP in Durham, with some time in Brier Creek, Raleigh. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, work well independently, have excellent troubleshooting skills, excellent English communication skills, and be passionate about open source software, servers, and datacenters.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Respond to customer support inquiries by phone and email
- Respond to monitoring alerts for server and network issues
- Maintain and support the technical infrastructure – servers, firewalls, network devices
- Setup new servers following documented procedures – hardware assembly, rack installation, OS installation
- Troubleshoot server slowdowns and errant behavior, based on specific procedures
- Be on call in case of emergency
- Manage escalation of issues to senior staff and vendors
Desired Skills:
- Experience working with several Linux/*BSD distributions
- Understanding of Internet systems and how they relate (DNS, TCP/IP, SMTP, FTP, etc.)
- Familiar with LAMP environment
- Scripting knowledge (shell scripts, python)
- Experience with cPanel/WHM and/or DirectAdmin

Hours:
Initial training period is full time – 8:30 am – 5:30 pm. After training is complete, future schedule can be discussed, including part-time options, as well as working nights and/or weekends.
