Looking Glass

The Looking Glass is a full-featured network diagnostic tool that lets you run commands from any NetActuate data center. Navigate to Platform → Looking Glass to access it.

Supported Commands

  • Ping — test reachability from a NetActuate location to a target IP or hostname
  • MTR — combined traceroute and ping providing per-hop latency and packet loss statistics
  • Traceroute — trace the network path from a NetActuate location to a destination

How to Use

  1. Select a command type (Ping, MTR, or Traceroute).
  2. Select a source location from any NetActuate data center.
  3. Enter a target hostname or IP address.
  4. Click execute to run the command. Output is displayed in real time.

Quick Access

A compact version of the Looking Glass is also available on the Platform overview page and on individual Data Center detail pages, so you can run diagnostic commands without navigating away.

When to Use It

  • Verifying that your anycast prefixes are being announced and received correctly at specific locations
  • Diagnosing routing issues by comparing the path from different PoPs
  • Confirming connectivity between NetActuate infrastructure and external networks
  • Troubleshooting BGP session or prefix propagation problems
  • Anycast — manage anycast groups and BGP sessions
  • BGP — single-location BGP peering and session management
