How-To Guide
NetActuate's VM Interface Firewall lets you create named rule sets with IPv4/IPv6 rules and apply them to your virtual machines individually, during deployment, or as an account-wide default. This guide covers getting started and points you to detailed documentation for each workflow.
Note: If you do not see the firewall option under Networking > Firewall in your portal, contact your NetActuate account manager to have it activated on your account.
Create and Manage Firewall Rule Sets
Create firewall sets, add rules with accept/drop actions for TCP, UDP, and ICMP traffic, reorder rule priority, and sync changes to your VMs.

Apply Firewall Sets to VMs
There are four ways to associate a firewall set with your virtual machines:
| Method | Where | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Associated VMs tab | Firewall set management page | Manually select VMs to associate with a specific rule set |
| VM Deployment | Build wizard | Select a firewall set when deploying a new VM |
| Account-Wide Default | Account > Settings > Security | Automatically apply a rule set to all new VMs |
| API | REST API | Programmatically manage associations |
