Reprovisioning
Reprovisioning a bare metal server reinstalls the operating system on the existing hardware. The server retains its IP address, hostname, and hardware configuration while receiving a fresh OS installation.
When to Reprovision
- You want to switch to a different operating system
- The server's OS has become misconfigured and you need a clean start
- You are repurposing the server for a different workload
How to Reprovision
- Navigate to Infrastructure > Bare Metal.
- Click on the server you want to reprovision.
- Go to the Tools tab.
- Click Reprovision.
- Select the new operating system image.
- Confirm the reprovisioning.
Note: Reprovisioning will erase all data on the server's disks. Make sure to back up any important files before proceeding. The server's IP address and network configuration will be preserved.
After Reprovisioning
Reprovisioning a bare metal server may take several minutes as the new OS is installed and the server is rebooted. Once complete, the server status will return to running and you can connect via SSH:
ssh root@<your-server-ip>
