Cloud Routers

Cloud Routers
Deploy a fully functional, managed router in any NetActuate PoP in minutes. Cloud Routers bring enterprise-grade routing capabilities to our edge platform: BGP sessions, VRF support, static routes, NAT rules, WireGuard tunnels, and more managed through the portal or API.

How It Works

A Cloud Router is a managed VyOS-based virtual router deployed as a VM on the NetActuate platform. Provision and manage routing entirely through the web UI or API no SSH, CLI, or physical hardware required.

Cloud Routers integrate with your VPCs, bare metal servers, VMs, and IX connections, making them a flexible building block for multi-site, hybrid, and multi-cloud network architectures.

Why NetActuate Cloud Routers

BGP Routing

Run full BGP sessions with NetActuate or third-party peers. Announce prefixes, set local preferences, and configure community tags—all from the portal.

Multiple VRF Support

Segment routing tables natively with multiple VRFs on a single Cloud Router. Ideal for multi-tenant or isolated network environments.

Static Routing

Define static routes with full control over next-hop and metric configuration.

SNAT & DNAT Rules

Configure source and destination NAT rules to control traffic flow between interfaces and networks.

WireGuard Tunnels

Create encrypted WireGuard tunnels between Cloud Routers, VPCs, or external endpoints for secure site-to-site connectivity.

Overlay Networks

Provisions a secure, encrypted overlay network between two cloud router instances using Magic Mesh

VPC Integration

Attach a Cloud Router to any VPC to enable BGP routing, IX connectivity, or third-party cloud connectivity from within your private network.

API Management

Every Cloud Router function is available via the NetActuate API for infrastructure-as-code and automation workflows.

Common Use Cases

VPC & On-Prem

BGP routing between your NetActuate VPC and on-premises infrastructure

IX Connectivity

Connecting to internet exchange points (IX) from within a VPC

VPN Overlays

Building multi-site WireGuard VPN overlays between distributed teams or services

Multi-cloud Connectivity

Setting up cross-cloud meshes between a NetActuate VPC and other providers

NAT

Advanced NAT and traffic shaping between network segments

Multi-Tenant

Requiring isolated routing domains with VRF separation in multi-tenant environments

Pricing

Cloud Routers are billed hourly based on standard VM rates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need networking expertise to use Cloud Routers?

Some networking knowledge is helpful—particularly around BGP, routing tables, and NAT—but our portal abstracts away most of the complexity. Our team is also available to assist with design and configuration.

Can I use a Cloud Router with my existing bare metal or colocation equipment?

Yes. Cloud Routers can establish BGP sessions and WireGuard tunnels with external infrastructure, making them compatible with colo and bare metal environments inside or outside of NetActuate.

Is direct CLI access available?

Cloud Routers are fully managed and configuration is done through the portal and API. Direct CLI/SSH access to the VyOS instance is not provided, which ensures consistent state management and auditability.

What's the difference between a Cloud Router and Magic Mesh?

Cloud Routers are the endpoints. Magic Mesh is the automated orchestration that connects two Cloud Routers together with a secure mesh. You deploy the routers; Magic Mesh handles the tunnel setup between them.
