Media Substrate

The Global Network Beneath
Live Video
You send one stream and receive one stream. Beneath that exchange, NetActuate runs diverse paths across a network it owns, so failover happens with nothing lost at egress. NetActuate measures every hop from ingress to egress, tracking the full path in real time, end to end. Bring your own protocol. We deliver the path

New York to Tokyo, London to Singapore, Sao Paulo to Madrid, Without Building a Network

City pairs come online as ready to use flows, not month long projects. No carrier by carrier procurement, and no overlay stitched together across networks you cannot see into.

One substrate reaches into the locations your traffic needs, drawn from a catalogue of more than 45. International paths get the same visibility, the same built in redundancy, and the same contribution grade performance you would expect from a domestic path.

Deployment fits how you operate: global, North America focused, or limited to a specific set of countries.

Infrastructure Only, Never a Competitor

NetActuate is the layer beneath SMPTE ST 2110 and ST 2022-7, VSF RIST and the SRT Alliance, and sells no encoder, no application and no content. If you build sender or receiver software, run your layer on the substrate.

If you are building your own stack, take the pure substrate and build on it directly. Your encoders, gateways, orchestrators, workflow and content stay yours.

How It Works

01
Bring your own protocol
Your stream rides a protocol neutral transport and each format is a thin adapter around it. The substrate forwards your bytes with no rewrap, so quality is attributable to the network rather than a codec change. SRT, RIST, UDP, MoQ and more run on one measurement plane.
02
Fully managed anycast substrate
Because NetActuate owns the ASN, the prefixes and the BGP control plane, your encoder points at an anycast address and the network chooses the path. Routing, failover and measurement live in one operator native layer rather than an overlay.
03
Operator absorbed redundancy
You send one stream and receive one stream. Inside the substrate we run diverse paths and merge them at egress. When a path degrades or goes dark the output does not blink and nothing is lost at our egress. See Image below.
04
Measurement driven steering
We measure per path quality continuously and re optimise the route beneath your transport. A source port rebind selects the cleanest path and a carrier level lever steers on the address space, so the fix happens in the network with no change to your protocol.

Latency Measured Against the Speed of Light

Latency varies by route, so we measure each corridor against its own physical minimum rather than relying on a single network-wide figure.
~1.7× Median Latency

Across measured corridors, median latency is about 1.7× the fibre path floor.
~1.2× Best Routes
The best-performing corridors operate close to the physical minimum.

Five Ways to Connect, One Substrate

Buyers with dedicated pipes do not have to give them up, and buyers without them do not have to build them. However your sites reach NetActuate, you land on the same measured redundant substrate.
Public internet.
Anycast takes your stream to our nearest point of presence. For many contribution paths this is all it takes.
Dedicated pipes and circuits.
NetActuate owns and operates the network, so dedicated capacity into the substrate is ours to sell rather than a third party handoff.
Managed last mile.
The circuit from your facility into our footprint is managed and run it as part of the service.
LEO plus fixed line.
A LEO satellite link, Starlink included, paired with a fixed line, for venues and remotes where one physical path is not enough.
Diverse dual ingress and egress.
An optional premium layer of diverse dual feeds into and out of our points of presence, on top of a substrate that is already redundant.

Pricing

The substrate carries no separate platform charge. You pay only for usage, metered and itemized by tenant and flow at standard NetActuate rates, with egress and other usage billed separately.

Custom Media Substrate, with its dedicated network identity and per country deployment scope, is quoted per deployment. The NetActuate MoQ Relay is available as a no charge evaluation deployment on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to change my encoder or protocol?

No. Bring the encoder and protocol you already run. We have instrumented SRT, RIST, UDP, MPTS, MoQ, ST 2022-7, SMPTE ST 2110, RTMP, WebRTC, WHIP and WHEP, and new protocols arrive as thin adapters.

Do I have to send two streams for redundancy?

No. You send one stream and receive one stream, and the substrate runs diverse paths and fails over it with no interruption at the output. If you want more diversity, an optional add on runs diverse dual feeds into and out of our points of presence.

Where can the substrate be deployed?

NetActuate operates in more than 45 locations worldwide, 22 of them in the United States, with a presence in every major North American media market. The substrate is not confined to a fixed set of pre built sites. We deploy it into the locations your traffic needs, drawn from that catalogue, and extend it further on request. So the answer to where we can take your feed is the catalogue and your own footprint, not a count of sites we have already lit. With the Custom tier you choose the scope.

Is this a replacement for my transport vendors?

No. We are infrastructure only and sit under and alongside your existing transport standards and vendors. We move the bytes and measure the path.

How is the substrate measured and billed?

Every flow is instrumented for latency, continuity and loss, ingress to egress across our own network and per leg. That is the boundary we stand behind. Your last mile at either end and any protective protocol buffer are separate, are reported separately and are never folded into our figures. Usage is metered and itemised per tenant and per flow.

Can you solve last mile connectivity?

We do not claim to fix the physical last mile. Often what presents as last mile pain is congestion at the carrier peering points between your access provider and the rest of the internet. The substrate measures that continuously and moves around a congested interconnect with no action from you and none from your carrier. Where the access line genuinely is the problem, the five delivery models above address it commercially: a dedicated circuit, a managed last mile, or LEO alongside a fixed line.

How do I get started?

The Media Substrate is available now in the NetActuate portal under Networking, in Managed and Custom tiers. Managed turns up self service. Custom is quoted per deployment. The NetActuate MoQ Relay is available on request with a no charge evaluation deployment of your own; we operate no open public relay.
