PupStation™ consists of two components: a cloud-connected food dispenser and a cloud-connected smart collar. Our smart collar contains motion sensors, microphones, and other technology. Our AI system autonomously runs training and engagement routines, where the dog’s behavior is detected by the collar, and then the feeder rewards the dog.

Designed to provide engagement and training activities when owners are busy or away from home , PupStation™ empowers pet parents to foster deeper bonds with their dogs by reducing stress and enhancing training outcomes. 

As Porter Labs evolves, its technology infrastructure is scaling to meet growing demand and simplify backend operations by transitioning from traditional cloud setups to NetActuate’s anycast edge services, solidifying their position at the forefront of pet tech innovation.

How PupStation™ Works

PupStation™ is designed to provide instant feedback to dogs during training, reinforcing desired behaviors with precision. The system consists of:

  • A Smart Collar with Motion Sensors – Tracks a dog’s movement in real-time, detecting behaviors such as spins, stillness, and obedience postures.
  • Edge-Powered Processing – Data from the collar is sent to the PupStation Cloud service, hosted in NetActuate’s edge infrastructure, where proprietary training algorithms analyze movements and determine appropriate reinforcement.
  • Automated Feeder Integration – Once a behavior is successfully recognized, the system triggers a reward from an integrated smart feeder via a cloud API.

The PupStation system itself functions as a distributed edge compute platform, allowing code to be deployed in real time onto our smart collars, while a training session is in progress. This further improves latency, while still streaming data to the PupStation Cloud for storage and analytics. Using NetActuate’s edge compute infrastructure allows us to perform these real-time code deployments quickly and reliably.

By using edge computing, PupStation eliminates delays that come with centralized cloud processing, ensuring real-time feedback—a key factor in effective behavior reinforcement.

Earlier iterations of PupStation™ relied on local processing and later on cloud-based services such as Google Cloud. However, high latency and reliance on external cloud networks presented challenges for real-time training.
