Grafana + Prometheus Node

Grafana + Prometheus Node is available in the NetActuate Marketplace as a one-click, open-source appliance you can deploy into any NetActuate PoP. The monitoring companion for everything else in the catalog. It is grouped under the Observability category.

What It Does

Grafana plus Prometheus is the de facto open-source monitoring pair: Prometheus scrapes and stores time-series metrics with a powerful query language (PromQL), while Grafana turns that data into rich, shareable dashboards and alerts. This bundle ships both together as a single combined monitoring stack, with Grafana serving its web UI on port 3000 and Prometheus handling collection and storage behind it.

Key features

  • Prometheus time-series database with a pull-based scraping model and PromQL for flexible querying
  • Grafana dashboards with dozens of panel types, templating, and a huge library of prebuilt dashboards
  • Built-in alerting in both Prometheus (Alertmanager-style rules) and Grafana unified alerting
  • Service discovery and exporters for hosts, containers, databases, and hundreds of third-party systems
  • Multi-datasource Grafana (query Prometheus alongside logs, traces, and SQL sources)
  • Long-term metrics retention plus a downsampling-friendly architecture
  • Role-based access, API-driven provisioning, and dashboards-as-code

Use cases

  • Infrastructure and host monitoring (CPU, memory, disk, network) across a fleet
  • Application and service SLO tracking with latency, error-rate, and throughput dashboards
  • Kubernetes and container observability
  • On-call alerting and incident response with actionable notifications

Why run it on the NetActuate edge Collect metrics close to where your workloads actually run, cutting scrape latency and cross-region egress. Keep dashboards and alerting responsive for operators no matter which PoP the data originates in, and run a regional Prometheus per edge location that federates upward so a single site outage never blinds your global view.

Best for: Metrics, Dashboards, Alerting.

Vendor and Project

Grafana + Prometheus Node is an open-source project, offered here under the Open Source listing with best-effort community support.

NetActuate supports the underlying infrastructure. Application-level support follows the listing SLA class (open-source, best effort).

Using the Appliance

Deploy in minutes

  1. Connect. SSH as ubuntu@YOUR_VM_IP with the password or SSH key you set at deploy.
  2. Open Grafana. Browse to http://YOUR_VM_IP:3000/ and sign in with the admin user and password you supplied at deploy.
  3. Explore metrics. Prometheus scrapes the targets you configured; the bundled Prometheus data source is already wired into Grafana.
  4. Build dashboards. Import a dashboard by ID or create your own against the Prometheus data source.

FAQ

Is there a software license fee? No. Grafana + Prometheus Node is open source and free to run. You pay only for the NetActuate infrastructure and bandwidth.

Which port does the appliance serve on? The primary service is published on port 3000 by default; see the configuration fields for any adjustable ports.

Who supports it? NetActuate operates the underlying infrastructure. The application itself is community-supported open source (best-effort SLA class).
