ResourceSpace

ResourceSpace is available in the NetActuate Marketplace as a one-click, open-source appliance you can deploy into any NetActuate PoP. Open-source digital asset management: catalog, search and share your media files. It is grouped under the Media & Streaming category.

What It Does

ResourceSpace is an open-source, self-hosted digital asset management (DAM/MAM) system used by teams to organize, find, transform and share their media library. Ingest images, video, audio and documents, describe them with rich metadata, group them into collections, and control who can see and download what, all from a server you own.

Key features

  • Central asset catalog with previews and automatic thumbnails for images, video and documents
  • Powerful metadata, keywording and faceted search across your whole library
  • Collections, resource requests and granular user/group access control
  • On-the-fly downloads in multiple sizes and formats (ImageMagick, Ghostscript, FFmpeg, ExifTool bundled)
  • Web admin for resource types, metadata fields, users and configuration
  • Co-located MariaDB bundled inside the appliance, no external database to run

Use cases

  • Brand and marketing teams managing a single source of truth for approved media
  • Media, publishing and broadcast libraries cataloging large image and video archives
  • Universities, museums and agencies sharing controlled asset collections

Why run it on the NetActuate edge Hosting ResourceSpace in a PoP near your users shortens the delivery path for large image and video downloads and previews, and keeps ownership of your assets, metadata and access policy with you.

Deployed from the NetActuate marketplace, ResourceSpace boots pre-configured from your seeded values: the web installer is run headlessly at first boot so the Super Admin account exists and the installer is already finished, and the database password is generated and persisted. Sign in at /login.php and start cataloging. Public sharing needs a real domain name and TLS termination in front of the appliance (a documented follow-up); the single-VM appliance serves the full web UI over HTTP on the instance IP out of the box.

Vendor and Project

ResourceSpace is an open-source project, offered here under the Open Source listing with best-effort community support.

NetActuate supports the underlying infrastructure. Application-level support follows the listing SLA class (open-source, best effort).

Configuration Fields

When you deploy, you provide these fields. They are written into the appliance at first boot.

FieldRequiredDefaultNotes
Admin passwordNogeneratedPassword for the ResourceSpace Super Admin account. Generated for you and stored in your secret list if not provided; never echoed back. Any printable characters, 8 to 128 chars. Stored write-only in your account secret list
Admin usernameNoadminUsername for the Super Admin account (default admin).
Admin emailNoadmin@example.comEmail address for the Super Admin account (default admin@example.com).
Instance base URLNononePublic base URL used for links and shares (e.g. https://dam.example.com). Leave blank to use http://<instance-ip> until you put a real hostname in front.

Using the Appliance

Deploy in minutes

  1. Open the app. Browse to http://YOUR_VM_IP/ and sign in at the login page with username admin and the admin password from your secret list.
  2. Add your assets. Upload images, video and documents, then describe them with metadata and group them into collections.
  3. Search and share. Use faceted search to find assets and share controlled downloads with your team.

Exposure posture: the appliance serves plain HTTP on port 80. Public sharing and external access should sit behind HTTPS on a real domain; put a TLS-terminating proxy in front (or a real hostname with a certificate) before going public.

FAQ

Is there a software license fee? No. ResourceSpace is open source and free to run. You pay only for the NetActuate infrastructure and bandwidth.

Where is the web interface? On port 80 at path /login.php by default.

Who supports it? NetActuate operates the underlying infrastructure. The application itself is community-supported open source (best-effort SLA class).
