Streama
Streama is available in the NetActuate Marketplace as a one-click, open-source appliance you can deploy into any NetActuate PoP. Your own Netflix: a self-hosted video streaming server for movies and shows. It is grouped under the Media & Streaming category.
What It Does
Streama is a self-hosted video streaming server with a Netflix-like web interface. Upload your movies, TV shows and other videos to the appliance and stream them in the browser with a modern player, rich metadata and artwork, multiple user accounts, watch progress and recommendations. It is completely free software.
Deployed from the NetActuate marketplace it boots ready on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS from the official upstream Streama release, running on a bundled Java 8 runtime with an embedded database, so there are no external services to set up. There is no license and no key. On first boot a default administrator account is created (username admin, password admin); change it immediately after your first login. The web UI and REST API are served on port 8080.
Upstream project: Streama (https://github.com/streamaserver/streama), an independent open source project released under the MIT license by Antonia Hulha and the Streama contributors. Streama is not affiliated with or endorsed by NetActuate; NetActuate packages the unmodified upstream 1.11.0 release jar.

Configuration Fields
When you deploy, you provide these fields. They are written into the appliance at first boot.
| Field | Required | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| HTTP port | No | 8080 | Port the Streama web UI and REST API bind to. This is the management surface. Default 8080. |
Using the Appliance
Streama is up. Open the web UI at http://YOUR_VM_IP:8080/ . Log in with the default administrator account username admin and password admin, then CHANGE THE PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY (top-right user menu, or Admin -> Users). No license or key is required (Streama is free software, MIT). Upload your videos through the admin interface and add your own TheMovieDB API key under Admin -> Settings to auto-fill metadata and artwork. Exposure posture: port 8080 serves the web UI and API over plain HTTP; do not expose the appliance to the public internet until you have changed the admin password, and put a TLS-terminating proxy in front or restrict access to trusted source IPs.
FAQ
Is there a software license fee? No. Streama is open source and free to run. You pay only for the NetActuate infrastructure and bandwidth.
Which port does the appliance serve on?
The primary service is published on port 8080 by default; see the configuration fields for any adjustable ports.
Who supports it? NetActuate operates the underlying infrastructure. The application itself is community-supported open source (best-effort SLA class).
